| BAIKONUR, Kazakhstan, March 2, 2007-- The first members of the Khrunichev launch team arrived here Feb. 27 to begin preparations for the initial Proton launch this year - an International Launch Services (ILS) commercial mission with the Anik F3 satellite for Telesat. | ||
| ILS' "early team" travels to Moscow and Baikonur this week. The rest of the multi-national Anik F3 launch campaign team - from ILS in the United States, Telesat of Canada and satellite builder Astrium of France - will arrive at the Baikonur launch site during the first half of March, to perform joint operations with the vehicle and the spacecraft. The ILS launch campaign blog will start shortly thereafter. Arrival of the spacecraft is expected next weekend. | ||
| Khrunichev Research and Production Space Center is the Moscow-based designer and manufacturer of the Proton vehicle family. The Khrunichev team will prepare engineering and launching facilities and perform the routine assembly and test operations with the Proton rocket's three stages. | ||
| The launch is scheduled for April. This will be the 40th Proton launch for ILS, and the 325th Proton mission overall. | ||
