BAIKONUR COSMODROME, Kazakhstan, Sept. 18, 2008 –A Proton M launch vehicle – that is due this year to deliver the Astra 1M television direct-broadcast satellite (DBS) into orbit for SES Global's SES Astra division – was recently today shipped from Khrunichev’s production facilities in Moscow, Russia to Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, where it will be readied for the launch.

The Astra 1M, an Eurostar 30000–based satellite with 36 transponders, was designed and built by EADS Astrium under the contract announced by SES and EADS Astrium in 2005 year.  SES Astra selected a launch services provider – International Launch Services Inc. that markets and manages commercial missions on the Proton launch vehicle – to launch the Astra 1M satellite on a Khrunichev –built Proton Breeze M launch vehicle. The Astra 1M launch is scheduled for late October.
