Proton Rocket Readied to Launch TELSTAR 5

SAN DIEGO, May 20, 1997 – International Launch Services (ILS) announced today that a combined Russian and American team is conducting final preparations to launch a Proton rocket on May 24 with Loral Skynet’s TELSTAR 5 communications satellite aboard. The rocket is scheduled to lift off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, May 24 (11:00 p.m. Baikonur time). The launch window is ten minutes long.

SES Confirms Proton Will Launch ASTRA 2A Satellite

Proton will launch ASTRA 2A, a television broadcast satellite, for Societe Europeenne des Satellites (SES) in the fourth quarter of this year. Atlas I Successfully Launches GOES-K

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., April 25, 1997 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas I rocket, designated AC-79, successfully launched the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite K (GOES K) into geosynchronous transfer orbit early this morning from Complex 36B at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), FL. Liftoff occurred right on time at 1:49 a.m. EDT. It was the 30th consecutive successful Atlas launch from CCAS, the third launch of 1997 and the last launch of the Atlas I configuration.

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Feb. 16, 1997 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS rocket, designated AC-127, successfully launched the JCSAT-4 communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit tonight from Complex 36B at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), FL. JCSAT-4 follows the successful launch of JCSAT-3 by Atlas in August of 1995. Tonight’s launch was the 28th consecutive success for Atlas and the first of nine Atlas missions from CCAS this year.
