CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, FL, September 12, 1999 – Lockheed Martin announced this afternoon that it will postpone tomorrow morning's Atlas launch carrying the EchoStar V communications satellite to allow engineers time to analyze an avionics unit that failed factory testing over the weekend. The unit – a Remote Control Unit (RCU) – is part of the Atlas launch vehicle control system.

Proton in Final Preparations to Launch LMI-1

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22, 1999 – A combined Russian, European and American team is conducting final preparations to launch a Proton rocket on September 27 carrying the LMI-1 communications satellite to orbit for Lockheed Martin Intersputnik (LMI). The rocket is scheduled to lift off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan at 4:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. USA EDT, Sept. 26; 2230 GMT, Sept. 26). The launch window is 10 minutes long.

The new launch window opens at 1:11 a.m. EDT and extends one hour and 59 minutes to 3:10 a.m.

It had been scheduled for launch at 1:12 a.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 10, from Cape Canaveral Air Station, FL. The company expects to announce a new launch date within the next few days.

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Sept. 3, 1999 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS rocket is on the launch pad and in final preparation to launch a communications satellite for Colorado-based EchoStar Communications Corp., a world-wide provider of direct-to-home satellite television products and services. EchoStar V will be launched on September 10 from Complex 36A at Cape Canaveral Air Station, FL. The launch window opens at 1:12 a.m. EDT and extends one hour and 59 minutes to 3:11 a.m. The launch will be broadcast live on Galaxy 6, Transponder 11, with test signals at 12:30 a.m. EDT.

Lockheed Martin’s Centaur RL10 Engines Cleared for Flight

 

DENVER, CO, August 30, 1999 – Lockheed Martin has cleared its Atlas II launch vehicle family to resume its 1999 launch schedule, starting with the launch of EchoStar V on an Atlas IIAS on September 10. This will be followed by an Atlas IIA launch of the UHF Follow-On F10 satellite from Cape Canaveral, FL, on September 30 and the EOS Terra-1 spacecraft on an Atlas IIAS from Vandenberg AFB, CA in October.

ILS Establishes Failure Review Oversight Board for Proton Raduga Launch

 

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 20, 1999 – International Launch Services (ILS), through its Lockheed Khrunichev Energia International, Inc. (LKEI) contracting entity, has established an independent Failure Review Oversight Board to review the results of the Russian Commission's investigation into the July 5, 1999 Proton launch vehicle failure. The Board is made up of experts with experience in failure analysis who have been drawn from within Lockheed Martin, NASA and other companies.
