Proton in Final Preparations to Launch AsiaSat 3

 

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 18, 1997 – International Launch Services (ILS) announced today that a combined Russian and American team is conducting final preparations to launch a Proton rocket on December 23 carrying the AsiaSat 3 commercial communications satellite to orbit for Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company Limited of Hong Kong. The rocket is scheduled to lift off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan at 4:17:30 a.m. (6:17:30 p.m. USA Eastern Standard Time, December 22). The launch window is ten minutes long.

Atlas Successfully Launches Galaxy VIII-i Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Dec. 8, 1997 –  A Lockheed Martin Astronautics Atlas IIAS rocket successfully launched the Galaxy VIII-i commercial direct-to-home television broadcast satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit this evening from Complex 36, Pad B, at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), FL. Liftoff occurred at 6:52 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It was the eighth and final 1997 Atlas launch and the 35th consecutive success for Atlas.

Atlas Rocket Will Launch U.S. Air Force Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Oct. 21, 1997 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIA rocket is completing final preparations to launch a communications satellite for the U.S. Air Force at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), Fla. on October 24. The sixth in the series of spacecraft for the Defense Satellite Communications System III (DSCS III)program will be launched from Complex 36A at the opening of a 79-minute launch window that extends from 7:37 to 8:56 p.m. EDT. This is the seventh of eight planned Atlas missions from CCAS this year.

Liftoff occurred right on time at 5:01 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. It was the sixth successful Atlas launch of 1997 from CCAS and the thirty-third consecutive successful flight for Atlas/Centaur.

Atlas Rocket Ready to Launch EchoStar III Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Oct. 2, 1997 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS rocket is undergoing final preparations at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), FL, to launch a communications satellite for EchoStar Communications Corporation of Englewood, CO. EchoStar III will be launched from Complex 36B on October 5 at the opening of a launch window that extends from 5:01 p.m. to 7:28 p.m. EDT, subject to restrictions associated with potential Shuttle landing opportunities. This is the sixth of nine planned Atlas missions from CCAS this year.

Liftoff occurred right on time at 8:03 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. It was the fifth successful Atlas launch of 1997 from CCAS and the thirty-second consecutive successful flight for Atlas.
