Atlas Successfully Launches Japanese Comm Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Feb. 16, 1997 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS rocket, designated AC-127, successfully launched the JCSAT-4 communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit tonight from Complex 36B at Cape Canaveral Air Station (CCAS), FL. JCSAT-4 follows the successful launch of JCSAT-3 by Atlas in August of 1995. Tonight’s launch was the 28th consecutive success for Atlas and the first of nine Atlas missions from CCAS this year.

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Dec. 11, 1996 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas rocket is undergoing final preparations at Cape Canaveral Air Station, FL, to launch a communications satellite for Inmarsat, the international joint venture whose global system of satellites provides mobile communications at sea, in the air and on land. This will be the second Atlas launch this year of an Inmarsat satellite.

Additional Air Force Launches For Atlas IIAS

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 7, 1996 – Lockheed Martin’s Atlas launch vehicle has been selected for the U.S. Air Force’s Atlas IIAS program. A contract for one firm launch and five options was announced by the Air Force on Aug. 30, and an option for a second firm launch was exercised by the Air Force on Sept. 6. This brings the Atlas backlog of firm launch commitments to 29, six military and 23 commercial.
