Terra Earth Observing System Remote Sensing Satellite Ready for Launch

 

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 10, 1999 – A Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS rocket is on the launch pad, and Lockheed Martin, ILS and the U.S. Air Force launch team is in final preparation to launch a remote sensing satellite for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Terra will be launched on December 16 from SLC-3E at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA, USA. The launch window opens at 10:33 a.m. PST and extends 25 minutes to 10:58 a.m. The launch will be broadcast live on NASA TV, which is carried on GE-2, Transponder 9C.

Atlas IIA Successfully Launches Tenth U.S. Navy UHF Follow-on Program Communications Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Nov. 22, 1999 – A Lockheed Martin Astronautics Atlas IIA rocket successfully launched the tenth and final Ultra High Frequency Follow-On (UHF F/O) communications satellite into intermediate transfer orbit this evening from Complex 36, Pad B. The on-time liftoff at 11:06 p.m. Eastern Standard Time was the beginning of a perfect mission for Atlas, which delivered the UHF F10 satellite to an intermediate transfer orbit in just under a half-hour.

International Launch Services Affirms Proton Manifest

 

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 4, 1999 – International Launch Services (ILS) said today that no launches have been delayed due to the Oct. 27 Proton failure other than the mission that was scheduled for mid-November. That payload, ACeS Garuda 1, will be rescheduled as soon as the timeline for Proton return-to-flight is established and agreed to by ILS and Lockheed Martin's Failure Review Oversight Board.

International Launch Services Proton Launches On Hold

 

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 28, 1999 – International Launch Services (ILS) said today that commercial Proton launches on its manifest will be on hold until the Russian State Failure Commission concludes its investigation of the Proton/Express launch failure that occurred the evening of Oct. 27 from Baikonur Cosmodrome.

First Atlas Centaur Launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base

VANDENBERG AFB, CA, December 18, 1999 – Lockheed Martin and ILS successfully launched the EOS Terra remote sensing satellite into sun-synchronous low earth orbit (LEO) this morning for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The satellite, which is a major component of NASA’s Earth Science Enterprise and the first in a series of EOS satellites, was launched on an Atlas IIAS at 10:57:39 a.m. USA PST from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Launch Postponement: Proton/ACeS Garuda-1

 

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 14, 1999 – International Launch Services announced today that the ACeS/Garuda-1 launch on a Proton/Block DM from the Baikonur Cosmodrome has been postponed from October 21 to October 31. Technicians are adjusting a valve in the Block DM upper stage fueling system. The need for the adjustment was discovered during the vehicle fueling process but there is no flaw in the valve.

MOSCOW, Sept. 27, 1999 – A Proton rocket successfully launched this morning from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan at 4:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. USA EDT, Sept. 26) carrying the LMI-1 satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).

Atlas Successfully Launches EchoStar V Communications Satellite

CAPE CANAVERAL Air Station, Fla., Sept. 23, 1999 – A Lockheed Martin Astronautics Atlas IIAS rocket successfully launched EchoStar V, a commercial communication satellite that will be operated by EchoStar Communications Corp. based in Littleton, CO. The satellite was placed into geosynchronous transfer orbit after a 2:02 a.m. EDT liftoff from Complex 36, Pad A. It was the third successful Atlas launch of 1999 from Cape Canaveral Air Station and the 44th consecutive successful flight of Atlas.
