ILS and Satmex Announce ILS Proton Launch of the Satmex 8 Satellite in 2012

RESTON, Va. /Mexico City, Mexico, December 29, 2010 – International Launch Services (ILS) and Satellites Mexicanos S.A. de C.V. (Satmex) announce the launch of the Satmex 8 satellite on an ILS Proton. The satellite is under construction by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L).  ILS and Khrunichev are implementing a mission integration schedule to support a third quarter 2012 ILS Proton launch of Satmex 8 into geostationary transfer orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Preliminary Report from Russian State Commission Rules Out Proton M as Cause of Glonass Launch Failure

Reston, VA, December 10, 2010 – Today’s preliminary report of the Russian State Commission investigating the cause of the Proton M Block DM-03 GLONASS launch failure on December 5 exonerates the performance of the Proton M, built and operated by Khrunichev State Research and Production Center (Khrunichev) as a cause of the Proton M Block DM-03 GLONASS mission failure. However, the KA-SAT mission team of ILS, Khrunichev, Eutelsat and Astrium are standing down at the launch site for about a week and will use the additional time to thoroughly review the preliminary report and data issued by the Russian State Commission.

Russian Federal Proton M Block DM Glonass Mission

BAIKONUR COSMODROME, Kazakhstan December 05, 2010 – On 05 December 2010, a Russian Federal mission of a Proton M Block DM rocket was launched with three Glonass-M navigation satellites on board from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.  The satellite cluster was not injected into its intended orbit.

ILS Proton Succesfully Launches LightSquared Satellite; 7th ILS Proton mission of 2010; 27th Successful Proton Launch in 28 months

This was the 7th commercial mission of the year for ILS and the 10th successful Proton launch of 2010.  The ILS Proton launch of SkyTerra 1 was the first satellite launch for LightSquared.
